Difference Between Electrics and Electronics

Key Distinction: Electricity is defined as anything that touches or is related to electricity. Electronics is defined as the science and technology concerned with the development and application of electronic devices and circuits.

According to the given definitions of the terms "electrical engineering and electronics", it can be concluded that electrical devices run on electricity, whereas the term "electronics" is related to the science and use of electrical devices. Talking about electrical and electronic devices, the difference is based on the behavior of these two devices, on how they manage electricity to do their job. Electrical devices basically convert current into another form of energy, such as heat or light. Electronic devices do the same thing, but they control the current in such a way that the device can perform a given or given task.

According to Wikipedia, electricity is a physical phenomenon that is related to the presence and flow of an electric charge. It gives a wide range of effects such as lightning, static electricity, electromagnetic induction, and electric current flow. Electromagnetic radiation is also used to send and receive signals through radio waves through electricity.

Electrical equipment is defined as anything that is related or related to electricity. In electricity, charges create electromagnetic fields that act on other charges. This is due to several phenomena, such as electric charge, which is a property of subatomic particles that is used to determine their electromagnetic interactions. Electrically charged matter is produced by electromagnetic fields. It is also created by an electric current, motion, or flow of electrically charged particles. To produce electricity, an electric potential is used, which is the ability of an electric field to do the work of an electric charge. Similarly, electricity, in which an electric current is used to power equipment, and electromagnets can be used.

The phenomenon of electricity has been studied since ancient times. Even then, practical applications using electricity were few and far between, and it wasn't until the late nineteenth century that engineers were able to use it for industrial and residential purposes. The rapid development of electrical engineering during this time transformed industry and society. Electricity's extraordinary resourcefulness meant that it could be used almost limitlessly, including transportation, heating, lighting, communications, and computing. Nowadays, electricity is considered to be the backbone of modern industrial society.

When the field of electronics was invented in 1883, electrical devices had been around for at least 100 years. For example:

  • The first electric batteries were invented by a fellow named Alessandro Volta in 1800. Volta's contribution is so important that it is called an ordinary volt.
  • The electric telegraph was invented in the 1830s and popularized in America by Samuel Morse, who invented the famous Morse code, which is used to encode the alphabet and numbers into a series of short and long clicks that can be transmitted over the telegraph.

According to Wikipedia, electronics is a science that deals with electrical circuits that use active electrical components such as vacuum tubes, transistors, diodes, and integrated circuits. It understands the behavior of components and their ability to control the flow of electrons through them. It is this electronic flow that helps in the amplification of signals and the operation of electronic devices, which is widely used in information processing, telecommunications, and signal processing. It is the ability of electronic devices to act as switches that makes digital information processing possible.

Electronics is considered different from other fields of science and technology as it deals with the production, distribution, switching, storage, and conversion of electrical energy from one form to another using wires, motors, generators, batteries, switches, relays, transformers, resistors, and other passive components.

Nowadays, most electronic devices use semiconductor components to control electrons. The study of semiconductor devices and related technologies is considered a branch of solid state physics, whereas the design and construction of electronic circuits to solve practical problems belongs to the field of electronics.

One thing to keep in mind is that the distinction between electrical and electronic devices can be a bit blurred. Sometimes, a simple electrical device may include some electronic components. For example, a toaster oven may contain an electronic thermostat that tries to keep the temperature at a level suitable for making the perfect toast. In addition, even the most complex electronic devices can contain simple electrical components. For example, a TV remote is a fairly complex small electronic device, but it uses batteries, which are simple electrical devices.
