It was created by the merger of Martin Marietta and Lockheed Corporation in 1995.
In 2006, NASA announced that it had selected Lockgid Martin to carry out a project to return to the moon.

HIMARS has in its arsenal GMLRS guided high-precision missiles with a range of up to 80 km, and the MGM-140 ATACMS missile has a range of 300 km.
The price of one HIMARS system as of 2014 was $5.1 million.
