Vinci S.A. is a French construction company. Until 2000, the company was known as Société Générale d'Entreprises S.A. The company's shares are freely traded on the Euronext Paris stock exchange and are included in the calculation base of the CAC 40 stock index.

History 

The company was founded in 1899 by Alexandre Giros and Louis Loucher under the name Société Générale d'Entreprises S.A. SGE was owned by the Compagnie générale d'électricité (CGE), now Alcatel, from 1966 to 1981, when Saint-Gobain acquired a majority stake. In 2000, the company's name was changed to Vinci.

1986: Sogea, founded in 1878, is acquired
1988: Campenon Bernard, founded in 1920, is taken over
1991: Norwest Holst, founded in 1969, is acquired
2001: Groupe GTM acquired
2006: Acquisition of Autoroutes du Sud de la France
2007: In February, the acquisition of an 81% stake in Soletanche, the parent company of Bachy Soletanche, was completed. As a result of the transaction, the company became the owner of 100% of Soletanche's shares. 
2010: Acquisition of Cegelec as well as Tarmac's European aggregate businesses. In September 2010, the company acquired Meteor Parking in the Go-Ahead Group.
2012: Vinci signed a deal to buy ANA Aeroportos de Portugal for €3,080,000,000.
In December 2013, Vinci was awarded a €440 million contract to build an expressway in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2014, Vinci sold a 75% stake in Vinci Park to a consortium of Ardian Infrastructure and Crédit Agricole Assurances. Vinci Park became Indigo. In June 2016, Vinci sold the last 25.4% stake in the former Vinci Park to a consortium of Ardian Infrastructure and Crédit Agricole Assurances. 

In 2015, Vinci and Orix won a 45-year contract to operate Itami and Kansai airports in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, at a cost of about $18 billion.

In March 2017, the company invested in Brazil to operate Salvador's airport, Bahia, for 30 years.  In October 2017, the Australian construction company Seymour Whyte was acquired. In November 2017, the company invested in Sweden to acquire Eitech and Infratek, specialists in electrical and engineering work. 

In May 2019, Vinci acquired a 50.01% stake in Gatwick Airport. 

On April 7, 2021, Vinci won a concession to operate the following airports in Brazil for 30 years: Eduardo Gomes, Tabatinga, Tefe, Cruzeiro do Sul, Porto Velho, Boa Vista.

Activities
The company ranks first among construction companies in terms of turnover, which in 2009 amounted to 31.93 billion euros. The company employs 161,750 people.
