Япония, XVI век. Стареющий правитель Хидэтора объявляет о разделе своих владений между тремя сыновьями.
Обманутый фальшивыми уверениями в верности двух старших сыновей Хидэтора прогоняет младшего, осмелившегося утверждать, что решение отца навлечет гибель на весь их род.
