Business is ruled by energy. I'm not talking about spirituality or self-awareness, I'm talking about ordinary energy, which was studied and digitized by Newton and Einstein.
We know that balls don't just fly into the sky. And trains do not move by chance.
In this article I want to introduce the concept of "Energy in Business".
Energy in business
In order to perform an action in the physical world, we need to exert energy. To kick the ball, you need to spend muscle energy, run up and swing your leg. Energy here will be presented in the form of calories.
To accelerate the plane, you must first burn the fuel, and the energy will be thermal.
To bend a pipe, to heat a liquid, to blow the dust off a book—in the physical world, we always apply energy.

I believe that only one type of energy matters in business - psychological energy, that is, the ability to experience pain for a long time.
Example: You want to lift a brick to a height of one meter above the ground and hold it in your hands. What are we going to spend energy on?
1. To overcome inertia and friction and tear the brick off the ground.
2. On the rise itself from 0 to 1 meter.
3. To hold the brick at a height of one meter above the ground.
As soon as we use energy, forces immediately begin to act on our brick, which try to return our brick to a state of rest (Newton's third law). In our example, it's gravity. The bigger the brick and the higher we want to raise it, the harder it will be to fight gravity.

In business, everything happens exactly the same. As soon as you expend your energy to get out of a state of comfort, then the "Forces of Peace" immediately begin to act on you. Our gravity will be laziness, apathy, the desire to avoid responsibility or quarrels, even fear. And the further, the more the force of rest acts.
What increases the expenditure of psychological energy?
Deadlines;
The need to achieve results;
Social censure, dissatisfaction of colleagues;
Being in a state of conflict;
Personal responsibility for victory/defeat. The defeat in this case should be obvious to everyone (for example, a digital goal in the form of the amount of sales or the number of leads brought);
Openness of results and the possibility of error;
The need to quickly learn new things;
❗ Please note that wasting time does not increase energy in any way! You can write a diploma for two years in a state of comfort and write nothing. And then overnight the diploma will be written.
Energy Zones

I will conditionally distinguish four zones of expenditure of psychological energy:
😃 Comfort zone. We are pleased and good in it. We do not expect failure and are friends with everyone. Let's call this zone "Comfortable". Secretaries, accountants and other back-office employees, workers in production are very often in this state. They don't solve anything, they don't care about anything.
🤨 Tension zone. Here we are usually disturbed and disturbed by something, our brain does not really like to be here, but nothing critical happens. For example, let's take a lawyer who negotiates a complex contract with the Client. You don't have to strain, and then the Client will be lost. A trifle of life! But if the manager notices ... And the lawyer is tormented by anxiety. Let's call this zone "Unpleasant".
😬 Discomfort zone aka "Painful". And we don't want to be here at all! Our brain begs us to dump from here to the previous two zones. Something is putting a lot of pressure on us. It can be a deadline, the need to achieve results, social pressure. A typical example: A sales manager who has a sales PLAN hanging like a sword of Damocles every day (deadline + sales necessity). Or an accounting employee who is forced to change the business process, and expects that he will be hated by all managers (social censure).
🤬 Zone "Painful-painful". We are under pressure from deadlines, the need for results, social censure. At the same time, at once, from all sides. For example, I will give the head of the sales department, who, if the department does not fulfill the plan, will not only lose his income, but also his job (because the department has not fulfilled the plan for the last 3 months). It hurts, it hurts!

Observation:
Many people, due to their nature and character, will NEVER be able to get into the "Hurt" and "Hurt-Hurt" 😬🤬zone. They would rather quit their jobs than take at least a step into this zone. Such people should be fired or put in positions where they will not be required to leave their comfort zone. And they are such people can occupy any posts, up to the director.
If you often stay in the last two zones, you can get used to it. In exactly the same way, a professional athlete gets used to many hours of daily training.
Four tracks

Using the designated zones, you can distinguish 4 tracks (as in the TV game "Clever and Clever").
🟦 The first track is blue. It is characterized by a very comfortable existence of those who walk on it. Pleasant. There are no people responsible. There are no deadlines. NEVER leads to a result. The term for solving the problem tends to infinity.
🟩 The second track is green. Usually you have to work in the "Unpleasant" zone, but the result will be achieved. The deadline for solving the problem is long. A business that constantly uses only green paths will soon be lost.
🟨 The third track is yellow. We work in the "Painful" zone, we quickly get the result. The term for solving the problem is average. A persistent track that requires an investment of energy.
🟥 The fourth track is red. The most unpleasant thing in the universe. It allows you to either quickly achieve a result, or break down and fly out of the game. Aggressive. Tough. Risky.
Tips:
If you have a lot of energy, then you can very quickly force any task - learn quickly, test quickly, quickly get an OS. The fourth track is for you.
Real leaders understand that their team will not voluntarily enter the yellow and red carpets. Therefore, the leader becomes on a par with the team and shows by his own example how to endure pain and turmoil.
People with low energy

You need people on your team who have a lot of energy and who can stay in the "Hurt" and "Hurt-Hurt" 😬🤬zones for a long time.
At the same time, all people strive to save energy. Everyone always strives for a state of low energy and a 🟦blue carpet. It's hardwired into our genetics and instincts.
First, let's learn how to identify those employees who have low energy:
🤥 "Braggart".
People who claim to have high energy, and at the same time are not able to be out of their comfort zone, actually have low energy. This category includes all those who "sing" at interviews, and then pour in at the first call to the Client. This includes all those who do something, but they don't want to hear about any KPIs or results. Pay me a salary and that's it.
People who are used to working on the yellow and red carpet will not tell you about it.
- Usually, "I am a king" is declared by those who are not king.
Tywin Lannister
🤝 "The task is important, I propose to conduct a series of zooms ...".
People who love gatherings usually have low energy. 99% of meetings take place in the "Comfort" zone! Everyone sits quietly on chairs, develops a collegial opinion, there are no deadlines and personal responsibility. Even if the decision is made, no one rushes to implement it. Very often, the decision is made in such a way that it will be carried out by a person who was not present at the meeting at all.
💡 "Well, choosing a new design for our notebooks is definitely a strategic and conceptual task..."
The "conceptualist" is constantly trying to inflate the complexity and significance of the task in order not to do it at all, either to share responsibility or to start with long meetings-reasoning.
💯 "I only get down to business if I can do it 100%"
And since we can do almost nothing right away and well... then you don't have to do it at all.
Be afraid of perfectionists, they are useless and arrogant. You will plow and they will look down on you and discuss the shortcomings of your decisions. Fortunately, in normal business, such people do not stay long and usually occupy insignificant posts.
😭 "Oh, why change, everything was fine, and if it doesn't work, why me, or maybe not me, but I'm very, very busy, and I don't have time and a warm coat ... ”
Well, everything is obvious here. A person has no energy at all, so he tries with all his might to get away from the task, and as a reason he voices anything but himself.
📚 "Well, here you need to figure it out well."
Sometimes it is necessary. But more often than not, business knowledge can only be gained through experimentation. Studying in business is not a lecture at a university. Learning in business is like riding a bike. You will have to break your knees or even your face.
🏹 "I propose to hire an employee with the necessary competencies ..."
Switchmen have no place in business. Indeed, sometimes we need unique competencies that no one on your team can quickly obtain. But this is an exception to the rule.
You need people who can learn quickly.
People with high energy
And what do high-energy people look like?
🤕 "Headwalkers"
People who are said to be "walking on their heads" usually have a high supply of energy. We remember that a lot of energy is spent on conflicts. To overcome the "opinion of the crowd" - too.
Usually, an employee who chooses the yellow and red carpet quickly achieves great results, quickly grows up the career ladder and at the same time gathers a circle of envious people who voice the false opinion "he has achieved everything, because he is a careerist and walks over his heads."
🔨 "Breakers of everything and everything"
Any business is twice as easy if you start it, and not think about how to start it.
Such people make decisions very quickly and are very fond of experiments. And you always hear about them that they "didn't do well enough, but they have already done it," or they came up with something and got everyone again.
At the same time, these people have time to conduct several tests and find the right path in the same time, while the "meeting lovers" have time to conduct the first two installation zooms and come up with a name for the project ...
How to work with a small amount of energy?

How to work with a small amount of energy?
1. Reduce the area of application of forces. Take smaller tasks, and solve them faster.
2. Open up your metrics and achievements to the people around you. We are motivated by social praise (and blame), so this tool works great.
3. Go in for sports, get rid of bad habits. Check your testosterone and dopamine levels. Very often, the cause of low energy is not in psychology, but in our body.
4. Set yourself big goals.
5. Tie your income (or the team's income) to solid results. Salaries and fees for the process lead to a decrease in energy in exactly the same way as obesity leads to a decrease in potency. You need hungry employees.
6. Motivate by personal example. If you constantly walk on the blue carpet and you don't want to change anything at all, nothing will change!
