Психопат похищает и убивает молодых женщин по всему Среднему Западу. ФБР, уверенное, что все преступления совершены одним и тем же человеком, поручает агенту Клариссе Старлинг встретиться с заключенным-маньяком Ганнибалом Лектером, который мог бы помочь составить психологический портрет убийцы.
