Games labeled "PS5 Pro Enhanced" will offer a stable 60 FPS, increased resolution, or improved ray tracing

Sony will label the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" badge for games for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro game console that will be able to offer support for higher frame rates, higher resolutions or improved ray tracing, sources told journalist Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming.

According to Henderson, Sony has informed the developers of the conditions under which their games will be able to receive the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label. To do this, a game must meet one of the following requirements:

  • PS5 Pro supports a higher target resolution compared to the fixed resolution on the regular PS5 console.
  • On PS5 Pro, the game must have a higher target maximum resolution than a regular PS5 where the game supports dynamic resolution.
  • such a game should provide a higher target frame rate compared to the fixed frame rate on a regular PS5;
  • The game must support ray tracing effects for PS5 Pro.

The "Enhanced" label for gaming first appeared in the PlayStation ecosystem after the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro. It meant that the game took advantage of the PS4 Pro console by providing an improved frame rate and support for higher resolutions. Sony wants games labeled "PS5 Pro Enhanced" to offer support for an exclusive graphics mode for the PS5 Pro, which will combine:

  • Support for upscaling to 4K resolution using the new PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) technology
  • stable 60 frames per second;
  • support for ray tracing effects or improved raytracing compared to a regular PS5.

These improvements will be made possible by 28% faster RAM, 45% more powerful graphics subsystem of the PS5 Pro console, as well as support for a new efficiency mode for the console's processor, which will increase its clock speed by 10%, writes Henderson. Combined, the console's improved performance will make it up to 45% faster than the regular model and provide twice the rendering speed.
