В небольшом мексиканском городке Тампико знакомятся два бедняка Доббс и Кертин. От местного старика они узнают о золотой жиле в окрестностях Сьерра Мадре. Вложив все свои деньги в дело, трое друзей отправляются в опасное путешествие.
