If the Fixies really existed, they would be the most welcome guests in every home. However, they are fictional characters. Therefore, we have to deal with minor repairs and “emergency household assistance” ourselves. We make a basic set of home tools.

Important! Choose good quality products: they will last you a long time, they will not let you down at a critical moment, and their price will pay off many times over during their service life.

Level
Level (water level) is a tool with which we measure how evenly an object stands or hangs: whether the surface of furniture or household appliances corresponds to horizontal and / or vertical planes. Without a level, you can’t hang a shelf, a photo collage, an embroidery or a child’s drawing evenly, you can’t install a closet, you can’t level a washing machine or a refrigerator.

Levels are mechanical (plastic, wood, metal) and laser. For home household use and repair, an ordinary mechanical one is quite enough.

A life hack from resourceful "craftsmen": if there was no level at hand when it is urgently needed, it can be replaced by an application in a mobile phone or ... a saucer of water.

Roulette
This metal tape with divisions, hidden in a plastic case, is called a roulette by analogy with a dish that came from French cuisine - a roll (from the French word roulette - roller, wheel). They are available in lengths from 1 to 10 meters.

Since not very long ago (since the time when the laser was invented in the second half of the twentieth century and began to be used for domestic purposes), laser roulettes, or rangefinders, have been on sale. It is very convenient for them to measure long distances - up to 100 meters, and it is convenient that this can be done without assistants.

There must be a tape measure at home. Otherwise, how to understand whether a chest of drawers will fit in the bedroom or how much space will be left in the corridor if you build in a wardrobe 60 cm wide?

Pliers, pliers and wire cutters
The reasons for the eternal confusion are pliers, pliers and wire cutters. These tools, firstly, are similar in appearance, and secondly, two-in-one hybrids are often found, such as pliers with side cutters.

Pliers are a tool with flat "sponges" (hence the name), which are convenient to grab and hold materials, parts, wires, fasteners.

Pliers are designed differently: they have “sponges” with serrated recesses that do an excellent job of gripping fittings, screws and nuts, pipes and parts of various configurations and shapes.

Nippers are an indispensable device for “biting” wires, wire, nails and everything that may need to be cut, and this cannot be done with scissors. Nippers are end and side, which are also called side cutters.

Claw hammer
The hammer is almost the most ancient tool of the “reasonable man”. And it’s not only about “hammering a nail”: different types of activities require their own type of hammer — for example, a plumbing and carpentry hammer (the most common), a construction hammer, for geological surveys, for chasing, a glazier’s hammer and others.

Types of hammers differ in the shape and size of the impact part, as well as in the material from which the handle is made (wood, plastic or metal).

Why should there be a nail hammer at home? Experienced people say: it’s more convenient not to look for a second tool if you need to not only hammer in a nail, but also pull it out. It is even better to have two hammers on the farm: with and without a nail puller. And the rest of the species will be needed only by specialists in their fields.

Adjustable wrench or wrench set
An adjustable wrench will help you turn a nut or bolt of various sizes, since one of the “sponges” of the key is floating and is fixed at the right distance from the second, fixed “sponge”.

If there is no adjustable wrench, then for the same purpose you can stock up on a whole set of wrenches, without which you can’t fix the crane and “pull up” the wheel on the bike.

To assemble furniture, repair household appliances and various devices, hexagons are often needed.

Hacksaw + hacksaw
A hacksaw is a small hand saw. It is necessary to saw off something wooden, plastic, metal. On New Year's Eve, it can come in handy to renew a cut of a live Christmas tree delivered for the holiday, or to cut a frozen lock from a country gate that could not be opened.

Screwdriver Set
Screwdrivers are absolutely necessary in the household. With their help, you can do a lot of small things: assemble a shelf or screw a bookcase to the wall, fix a table lamp switch, replace batteries in devices - there is always something where you need to twist a screwdriver a couple of times and for which you don’t want to uncover a screwdriver.

ECO TIPS
Rainwater tanks and other eco-house details
When choosing, it is necessary to focus on the quality of the metal from which the screwdrivers are made, and on the convenience (ergonomics) of the handle.

Drill driver
With the help of this serious tool, you can redo a huge amount of construction and repair work in an apartment, in a country house or in a house where you need to screw in or unscrew screws, bolts, self-tapping screws.

A cordless drill driver (preferably two) will speed up the process of assembling or dismantling any furniture, help you drill the necessary holes in the wall to secure shelves, racks or kitchen cabinets.

When choosing, be guided by a manufacturer that is trustworthy, and keep in mind that the higher the battery capacity, the longer the tool will work without additional recharging.

Set of tools
If ease of use, movement and storage is in the first place, and in order not to be puzzled by the search for individual tools, you can consider buying a set of tools that has everything essential for an apartment or a country house.

With such a set, you can do a million of both small-scale and global installation, plumbing, construction and repair work on your own. Yes, these are non-professional tools, but for home use and emergency cases - what you need.

And... drumroll...

Renovator
The name of the device sounds almost like "helper". And in fact, that's the way it is. The Renovator is a new generation tool that, thanks to numerous attachments, copes with many tasks: cutting at the right angle, sawing off, polishing, grinding, cleaning the surface; with the device you can plan, ditch, remove varnish, old paint or plaster, make holes or cut out a piece of skirting without removing it from its place.

The renovator is "too tough" with plastic, wood, and metal, as well as brick, drywall, plywood, tile, foam plastic, concrete and other materials.

It proved to be excellent when working in hard-to-reach places - in corners, at the joints of walls, and will replace many hand tools, especially if the amount of work is not very large.

The expediency of the purchase is obvious for those who make repairs with their own hands, carpentry, crafts, restore and are used to doing everything with their own hands.

Bonus: what should be in stock
Self-tapping screws, nails, nuts, washers, dowels. Bought by weight or in sets. What is the use of a screwdriver and screwdrivers if there is nothing to screw in?
Insulating tape and tape. Insulating tape is useful on the farm to fix a small leak in anticipation of repair or to insulate wiring. Scotch tape is a thing that has long been recognized as indispensable. As is ingenuity.
Glue. PVA, Moment, superglue or something else that you are used to and trust. You can get a glue gun and silicone rods to it - it glues instantly and firmly enough.
Scissors. Let them be everywhere and different: in the kitchen, in the bathroom, on the desktop and in the suitcase with tools. They are forever lost.
Flashlight. Ordinary or headband - it will come in handy if the light is turned off, you need to change the light bulb (and it’s already dark outside), look under the bath (in case of a leak). Let it be.
