Инженер-идеалист Джорджо Роза решил построить независимое государство и создал искусственную платформу в Адриатическом море за пределами территориальных вод Италии. 1 мая 1968 года он объявил о новом государстве «Республика эсперанто острова Роз», чем привлек внимание всего мира.
