Бухгалтер Энди Дюфрейн обвинён в убийстве собственной жены и её любовника. Оказавшись в тюрьме под названием Шоушенк, он сталкивается с жестокостью и беззаконием, царящими по обе стороны решётки. Каждый, кто попадает в эти стены, становится их рабом до конца жизни.
