Глава семьи, Дон Вито Корлеоне, выдаёт замуж свою дочь. В это время со Второй мировой войны возвращается его любимый сын Майкл. Майкл, герой войны, гордость семьи, не выражает желания заняться жестоким семейным бизнесом.
