What Is Product Management?

Product management is a discipline focused on guiding the development, launch, and growth of products that meet customer needs and align with business goals. It sits at the intersection of strategy, design, and execution.

At its core, product management is about understanding users. Product managers (PMs) gather insights through research, interviews, and analytics to define problems worth solving. They then translate those insights into product features and strategies.

Product management also involves prioritization. With limited resources, PMs decide which features or improvements to pursue, balancing customer value with business impact.

PMs work cross-functionally, collaborating with engineering, design, marketing, and sales teams. They act as the “voice of the customer” while also aligning with business objectives.

In short, product management ensures that products are not only built right but are the right products to build.
