1927 год. Легендарная исполнительница блюза Ма Рейни вместе с группой прибывает в Чикаго для записи альбома. Молодой талантливый трубач Леви написал танцевальную аранжировку её популярной песни «Black Bottom», и продюсеры настаивают на этой версии, но Ма Рейни ставит жёсткие условия: либо все выполняют её требования, либо она отказывается от записи. Работа в студии становится для всех непростым испытанием.
