Blackgammon – так называется панк-металическая группа, сколоченная барабанщиком Рубеном и его боевой подругой Лу. Для рокера Рубен – бывший наркоман, завязавший с пагубной зависимостью – слишком повёрнут на здоровом образе жизни, впрочем, от болезней, как от сумы и тюрьмы, лучше не зарекаться. Во время выступления он вдруг слышит, что ударные издают не фирменный саунд, а глухой гул. Это первый симптом неотвратимой потери слуха. И Рубен отправляется в уединённую обитель людей с глухотой, чтобы самому научиться быть глухим.
