What is philosophy?

Life, science and culture in general require from us and, above all, from young people, perfection, energetic curiosity, creative imagination, inquisitive thought, refined intuition, broad outlook and wisdom. The study of philosophy contributes to this.

The Greek word "philosophy" goes back to the names of Thales, Heraclitus, and Pythagoras. Its deep meaning was first subjected to a thorough analysis by Plato and Aristotle. The age of philosophy is very venerable (more than 2.5 millennia). In different eras, the word "philosophy" had a different meaning.

According to one of the points of view, philosophy is the doctrine of the general principles of being and cognition, the science of the universal laws of the development of nature, society and thinking, a form of worldview that rationally justifies its positions in their interrelation.

Philosophy includes: ontology (the doctrine of the general principles of the existence of the universe), social philosophy and philosophy of history, philosophical anthropology (the doctrine of man and his being in the world), epistemology (the theory of knowledge), philosophy of creativity, ethics, aesthetics, theory of culture and the history of philosophy, which is an essential component of the subject of philosophy.

The subject of philosophy is not one aspect of existence, but all things in the fullness of their content and meaning.

It is often debated whether philosophy is a science. Some argue that philosophy is a science, others that it is a form of worldview, art.

What are the features of philosophy that allow it to be considered a science?

Science is systematic, evidence-based and verifiable knowledge; a system of interrelated provisions. The provability of science is realized through the consistent substantiation of some propositions by others. The conclusions of science should be tested in practice, in order to avoid false knowledge. This allows you to discard non-scientific inventions. In philosophy, systematicness, evidence, and verifiability are also present. Philosophers try to be convincing, to substantiate their conclusions, to check them with facts. Also, good philosophy is not only not alien to practical activity, but on the contrary, gives it ethical, noble meaning. From this point of view, philosophy can and should be considered a science.

What is the purpose of philosophy? Having studied the opinions of various authors, it can be concluded that philosophy is intended to ensure the existence of man in the world; to elevate, to improve a personto help to find the highest principle and meaning of existence. The study of philosophy is a noble cause, if only because it is much more difficult to become a "monkey of civilization" with it than without it.

Thus, philosophy is a science that deals with the search and study of the common features of the inner world of a person and the entire surrounding world as a whole. If any other science studies any area or part of the world, then philosophy covers the whole world. Therefore, we can say that philosophy is the science of everything, that is, of the most broad, general, important, main, basic.
